CODA AREA meeting 21-11-2009

Agenda:

  1. Syste: question about Wednesday group and The Hague
  2. Sjoerd: finances
  3. Zita: update retreat
  4. Piet-Hein: website
  5. Piet-Hein: translation committee

ad 1. a) Wednesday group: Use of Dutch translations

Lot of people have difficulty with English: request for more Dutch translation of texts.

We can use WITHIN the groups unofficial translations when we make mention of it’s unofficial character (e.g. stamp on it or written above the text “unofficial translation”).

(Already) translated materials can be submitted to the translation committee to send to CODA international for approval so that it can be used with copyright (in which case it can be sold/spread around other groups).

ad 1b) The Hague

There is interest in having a new group in The Hague. We can ask people who express interest if we can exchange their phone-numbers/emails so that they can arrange among each other.

Sytse will ask former members of The Hague group if they can be contacted when people want to create a new meeting.

Suggestion: make a link on the CODA website to the starters package info on CODA international site +

Vote: place a text with the meeting list on website that “if there is no meeting near you and you’d like to set up one, please contact us” (to be finalized in next area meeting).

ad2) Finances

Piet-Hein and Sjoerd are now the official representatives for the account, but the address change has not been successful yet. Annual cost of account (ING) has been raised.

Coda Zutphen has been informed about the bank account number of the area.

Last year money was allocated to the area literature person (Jim), but this year not needed.

Last year (2008) we were going to transfer money to CODA international, has not succeeded yet. Sjoerd will try again with help of Paul.

Next meeting Sjoerd will present the budget for 2010 and inform us how much has been donated to CODA international in the past so that we can decide what we will donate for 2009 (Anna reminds us that we have to decide on the amount for donation including the costs of international transfer).

3) Retreat

Retreat scheduled for 25-27th of June 2010. Down-payment will need to be made to Heel & Al. Money still in Retreat account can be used but will not be enough. Vote: Area will allocate remainder as a loan to the Retreat account to be used for the down-payment. Zita will inform Sjoerd about exact amount needed.

4) Links to CODA site on commercial websites

It was brought under webmaster’s attention by email that a commercial website had linked to CODA site. Guidelines of CODA international mention that such links may seem to imply that CODA is in agreement with the site that is making the link – they urge to be careful about this.

VOTE: compose a standard email with request to remove the link (next area meeting we will discuss further) – Piet-Hein will formulate such an email and send it around to the area members. To be finalized in next area meeting.

5) Translation committee

Doesn’t manage to get together with 4 people (one is often abroad). Suggestion: have a group consciousness by email with the members to decide to get together even when not all members can be present to keep continuation of the process.

Final questions:

  • What about the step-workgroups? No news.
  • Can we look into the possibility of creating a budget for giving money to people who cannot afford to buy literature? Discuss next time.
  • Can unofficial translations be used as of now? Yes, within the limitations discussed.

NEXT AREA MEETING: suggested date 20th of February
